Natural Light Workshop announced for NoVa 4/28!

Come out to Northern Virginia (Piedmont region) for a full day of learning & shooting in natural light.

From Shooting in full sun – shooting in backlight – learning to use your surroundings – shooting with/without modifiers – clean processing… there will be a number of topics covered and a lot of hands on shooting.

Who is this workshop aimed towards?

This is for anyone that has a decent grasp of their camera and wants to master natural lighting situations.
This is NOT a business workshop. I’m happy to point you in the direction of some great business folks and I’m happy to answer private questions, but very little business discussion will take place, if any.
It’s perfect for hobbyists or pros that might just want to get out and challenge themselves in their natural light work.

How much does it cost and what is included?
The workshop will be 8ish hours long (and longer if people still want to shoot or hang out!)

It costs $650 if you’d like to stay overnight (at an awesome little farmhouse in a picturesque setting!) or $600 without lodging. It will include one full meal, lots of snacks, and other goodies, too. ;)

This workshop is limited to only 8 participants so there will be a lot of hands on shooting for you and easy access to having any questions answered!

Click “Register” above to sign up – it’s only limited to 8 participants. Hope to see you there!

Online pet photography mentorship/workshop coming soon!

I’ve been brainstorming about offering this for quite some time and decided that 2012 is the year I’m opening up online workshops for pet photography. These online workshops will be geared towards:

* Those just getting into the business of photography and want to pursue pet photography
* Those already in the business of photography but want to focus on pet photography
* Those that want to just take better photos of their dogs, friend’s pets, or shelter animals.

It will be hosted in a private forum exclusive to mentorees, there will be multiple lessons & topics covering the following:
* Everything you need to bring to a shoot – from gear to everything else.
* Defining & refining your style.
* The anatomy of an MP pet shoot – in detail from start to finish.
* Dealing with clients & owners.
…. & so much more.

Each lesson will include an assignment – where I’ll offer detailed feedback on your responses and other mentorees will be able to chime in and learn from each other as well.

Each mentorship will also include an in depth portfolio review and 2 30 minute skype sessions (or chat sessions, if you’d prefer!).

Interested? We’ll be taking on a very limited amount of people each month in order to focus on each mentoree starting in March. Click “Register” above to sign up for the interest list!

Lightshop July 2011.

Geared towards the photographer that has a decent understanding of shooting in manual, or at minimum in semi-manual modes.

This workshop will cover many basics of natural light:

  • The different kinds of lighting & angles of light… and how to use each of them to your advantage
  • How to “see” the light
  • Shooting in full sun & backlight
  • Using your existing surroundings to your advantage, as well as using light modifiers

We’ll have some “book learning” as well as a model or two as well so we can get out and practice and learn hands on. This first workshop is limited to 5 people as I want to make sure everyone gets an opportunity to be the “main shooter” and direct the model to apply your knowledge.

As of April 4, 2011 this workshop is full and there is a waiting list.
